You can reach the Zaan-region (by car, bus, train and boat) and where you can stay overnight (hotels, camping’s). And of course also you can be reached by boat very well and where you can moor and fill up.

The Jagersveld recreational area
The Jagersveld recreational area lies between the districts of Kogerveld and the Kalf. In its center is the lake, with a depth of 30 meters. The Jagers Lake resulted from sand mining in the area for the construction of the Coen tunnel road. Various beaches encircle the lake for swimming and several are reserved for surfing. Lovely walking and bicycling tracks criss-cross the area.
Het Twiske Recreation Area, Zaan- Region
Het Twiske Recreation area is situated north of Amsterdam, between Zaanstad and Purmerend. In the wide area Het Twiske is being mentioned on ANWB traffic signs. The area owes it’s name to a little river named the Twiske, which formed an open connection between Wormer and the IJ-river. This recreation area of 650 ha is being managed by Recreationship “het Twiske”. The vast recreation are the Twiske, stretches among the villages of Oostzaan, Landsmeer and Den Ilp.
Wooden Shoe Clog Workshop and Museum (De Klompenmakerij), Zaanse Schans
Through the meadows, over a small bridge, the path leads you back to the starting point, the old storehouses 'De Kraai', 'De Bezem', 'De Lelie' and 'De Vrede'. The 'Vrede' warehouse is a former storage shed for grain and snuff. Part of the warehouse has been set up as a wooden shoe-museum, with one of the largest collections in Holland and now it accommodates a clog workshop, where the handmade clogs and other souvenirs are sold. Quite often, you can see the clog maker at work. Storehouse 'De Bezem' accommodates a shop and the office of the Zaanse Schans Foundation.
The Zaanse Schans Shipyard
The Zaanse Schans authentic houses, the historic shipyard, the clog-making demonstrations and, above all, the windmills, attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Original shed of ship yard Brouwer at the Rustenburg in Zaandam end of the 18th century.
Pewter Workshop “De Tinkoepel” - Traditional Teahouse and Pewter Foundries
On the left-hand side of the Clock-museum is a small teahouse. In the eighteenth century many merchants had tea-rooms like this at the back of their houses on the river Zaan. During the summer it was used for drinking tea and relaxing. This tea-room has Rococo-ornaments. The spade on the arms is the symbol of the family who first owned this building. The garden, in the French style, gives an idea of a back-garden of a merchant house in the Zaan-Region.
The Zaanse Schans
The Zaanse Schans. A combative name for a peaceful old Zaans neighborhood of of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the municipality of Zaanstad in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The Zaanse Schans is famous for his unique combination of wind mills and green wooden houses from the 17th century. A visit to the Zaanse Schans is an unforgettable experience. Visit mills and museums and make a nice canal tour and enjoy the beautiful environment.
De Overtuin (The Overgarden), Zaanse Schans
Over the road-ditch, there fore the name ‘over garden' style influenced by French garden architecture. Merchants who lived on the river Zaan often had a garden on the opposite side of the road: this ensured that they had an unobstructed view of the landscape, but it was also used as an ornamental garden. Landscape gardening was influenced by the French style. A statuette of ‘Fame', the angel with the trumpet, and a sun-dial were favorite centerpieces in these gardens.

Specialty restaurant; former orphanage from the 18th century; combined with a 19th century house and an 18th century herring net house, big terrace at the Zaan with a view on the Gortershoek; the side façade of the herring net house an a lot of antique tiling.
A 19th-century local whaling ship, the "Hope for the Black Whale" occupies a refined brick building that now stands amid Zaanse Schans's green-painted houses, having been originally constructed as an orphanage in nearby Westzaan.
Merchant House the Mole (Het Koopmanshuis d'Mol), Zaanse Schans
Built Seventeenth century, rebuilt in 1795 nice sharpened dormer window; consoles at the corner of the front give the house a bigger impression; arm with a mole above the door.

This fascinating gallery has been formed out of two different buildings; the shop dating from the 19th century, and a much older bookshop from Zaandam, dating 1630 and relocated to the Zaanse Schans in 1970. The lead glass windowpanes over the 'death door' and the bulkhead wood with chamfered edges are typical of the 17th century. The Gallery sells etches, fantasy articles and wooden toys.

This listed Merchant's house with its richly decorated rooms dates from the early 18th century. The beautiful period interior gives an excellent impression of the life and culture of Zaanse a wealthy merchant family. The Honig Bree home is full of fascinating history, has beautiful views over the Zaan and is only a 10-minute walk from the Zaanse Schans.
