Bird watching tours on the IJsselmeer river, Enkhuizen (Vogelvaarttochten op het Ijsselmeer)
Tour around the lake IJsselmeer (the area now known as lake Markermeer), rightly regarded as a challenge for cycling enthusiasts. The route takes you through typical towns of the Zuiderzee, such as Volendam, Enkhuizen, Workum, Hindeloopen, Blokzijl, Kampen and Harderwijk. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy the Water land area, the Gaasterlandse woods, the Wieden wetlands and the fragrant heath of the Veluwe.

Thus great opportunity to know the natural richness of the lake. The route was chosen so that the largest cormorant colonies in country properly could be viewed, including those of the new Nature Island of the Lame. There may also view the spoonbill colony of the Bank for several years, with about 40 nests.
For anyone, who likes to see cormorants up close, it is recommended to stop by at the Oosterdijk, a dike, north of the city of Enkhuizen at the top of a dyke bordering the Ijsselmeer in the Netherlands. Many water birds, fish and other water animals populate the IJsselmeer. When the weather is good you can enjoy the underwater life by diving.
Another small section along the Ijsselmeer. Once you pass the fishing harbour of Lemmer, the landscape changes and you cycle into the peat-moors of the Wieden and Weerribben National Park. A land of reeds and small lakes with an overwhelming number of birds and animals, on your way to the pretty town of Blokzijl. Then onwards to Giethoorn, also called "Venice of the North", an enchanting village where homes are connected by waterways.
Nature reserve and recreation area the Vooroever is the perfect place not only for sailing but also for windsurfing, swimming, sunbathing and angling. You will find this recreation area, the Ijsselmeer/ Enkhuizen/ Medembli and the marina all within 150 to 200 meters from the park. The Vooroever recreational area stretches from Andijk to Medemblik and is a good place to walk, watch birds and do some fishing. Nature Reserve Oostvaardersplassen
The "Oostvaardersplassen" is one of the prime birding areas in Europe. It is only 40 km east of Amsterdam, so perfect to combine with a visit to the capital of the Netherlands. The 5600 ha Oostvaardersplassen is a eutrophic wetland in the central part of the Netherlands, situated in the polder Zuid Flevoland, which was reclaimed in 1968. The marsh zone in this nature reserve takes up 3700 ha, the terrestrial part 1900 ha. Soil fertility is high. Since its reclamation from the freshwater lake IJsselmeer, the vegetation of the Oostvaardersplassen has rapidly developed by natural succession. Concurrently, the area became an internationally important wetland for migrating water birds such as waders and geese. You will find Eurasian Spoonbill, Bearded Tit, Smew, Goosander, White-Tailed Eagle, Bluethroat, Marsh Harrier, amazing variety of warblers, waders and waterfowl.
Cross Lake IJsselmeer to Enkhuizen atop a 30 km dike! You will see our Golden Age reflected in the historical buildings of pretty Enkhuizen. Don’t miss the excellent Zuiderzee Museum which includes an exhibition about the days when Dutch East India Company trading ships from towns on the Zuiderzee sailed the seven seas trading in spices and bulbs. Moreover, you can visit a recreated Zuiderzee village of old.
The River IJssel, sometimes called Gelderse IJssel to avoid confusion with its Hollandse IJssel namesake in the west of the Netherlands, is a branch of the Rhine in the Dutch provinces of Gelderland and Overijssel. Here, it flows more or less vertically across the image, just left of the middle. River IJssel flows from Westervoort, east of the city of Arnhem, until it discharges into the IJsselmeer.
