Mill De Koker (The Chute)

The mill De Koker (The Chute) was built in 1806 in Wormer and fit up as corn-mill. This Flour mill located at Oosteinde in Wormer. It is an octagonal bovenkruier (windmill of which only the cap is movable) with scaffolding. It came from Graft but it was of Zaanse origin. It once stood in Zaandijk as paper-mill. It was named “De Hoop” (The Hope) then and got a “windletter”(windbrief) in 1697. Later on it carried the nickname “Arme Jacob” (Poor Jacob). In 1949-1950 the mill, owned by De Zaansche Molen now, was restored.

De Koker dominates the open countryside around the Wormer area. De Koker or also called De Zwarte Hengst (The Black Stallion) on the Oosteinde. It is very much the question whether this mill is the original Koker or Zwarte Hengst, because very few mills have been subjected to the kind of treatment this mill had to endure.
